What is the Forgenius for Schools project?
Story of the Forgenius school project
Welcome to get to know the wonderful school project that was implemented in the spring of 2022. The project is based on the European Forgenius project, which studies natural diversity. This project was aimed at schools in Finland and Slovenia. The schools were selected as recommended by Forgenius researchers. The starting point of the project was to present the nature surrounding the schools and find phenomena there, with the help of which diversity can be observed and studied. The starting point was connected learning, which this website also tells more about.
Despite the challenging times in Europe in the spring of 2022, we succeeded great.
The project was carried out between Finnish and Slovenian schools. The European researchers of the Forgenius project participated in the school project as experts. The Recommendations section of the website gives suggestions for implementing similar projects in European schools.

Insight into the diversity — Forgenius for Schools backround
FORGENIUS project— an H2020 project, funded by the EU — will give an insight into the diversity of European forests and their resilience to climate change. The project uses state-of-the-art technology and knowledge in plant and evolutionary biology, ecology, remote-sensing, genomics, genetics, modelling, and forestry. It aims to upgrade the current European Information System on Forest Genetic Resources (EUFGIS) platform, by adding new types of data and information on the Genetic Conservation Units (GCU), allowing predictions of the fate of European forests in the short, medium, and long term. Such a tool will be the key to invent new, adaptive strategies to preserve these extraordinary natural assets at the continental level. Forgenius for Schools project is a part of Forgenius project communication.
