Heikinpohja school, Savonlinna, Finland
Heikinpohja school is located on top of a hill surrounded by forest. The beautiful lake landscape of Saimaa surrounds the school. Saimaa is the fourth largest lake in Europe, and several endangered aquatic animals live there, the most famous of which is the ringed seal. From the windows of Heikinpohja school in the middle of the lake, you can see the medieval castle – Olavinlinna, where the famous Opera festival is held every year.
Our school has 230 students in grades 1-6. In addition, we have small groups for students who require special education. These students are often also integrated into basic education. There are 20 teachers. Our school also employs 15 special needs assistants.
Heikinpohja school has a music class, and our school is also profiled in sports and forestry. We have been chosen as the School of the Year in Finland in 2022.
Spodnja Šiška, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Our school is 113 years old with a long tradition where old and new coexist. We have 550 pupils and 55 teachers. First graders are 6 and 7 years old and so after nine years of primary school, pupils are 14 or 15. Every grade is divided in three classes, a, b and c. We will participate with 5th graders from three classes. Our school is situated close to the city center, museums, theatres and galleries and even closer to Tivoli, Rožnik and Šiška Hill Landscape Park. Whenever we can, we use it as a classroom.
